An amendment that would prevent the party of jailed neo-Nazi and former deputy Elias Kasidiaris from running for Parliament in the May 21 elections passed in Parliament late on Tuesday night, in the last session of the body before national elections.
The amendment was passed with the votes of ruling New Democracy and with PASOK-Movement for Change (KINAL). Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance abstained from the vote, and the rest of the parties voted against it (Communist Party, Greek Solution, MeRA25).
The bill of “Regulations related to first- and second-level local government organizations, Regulations for the wellbeing of pets, Regulations for human resources in the public sector, and Other regulations of the Interior Ministry and other urgent regulations” also passed in the voting. It is the last draft law to be considered in the Greek Parliament under this term, as the body will shut down temporarily for Orthodox Easter, then will need to shut down for elections.
The bill passed with New Democracy votes. Syriza abstained, and the rest of the opposition parties voted against it.
