7,500-plus cases identified at early stage thanks to ‘Fofi Gennimata’ breast cancer screening programme

“Today I want to tell you something very important, but also to ask you something,” Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in a video on Tik Tok on Thursday, about the “Fofi Gennimata” breast cancer screening programme.

“The ‘Fofi Gennimata’ breast cancer presymptomatic screening programme is a health programme of particular importance. I want you to remind the women in your environment about it, your mothers, your grandmothers,” the prime minister said.

He explained how the programme works for women aged 50 to 69 and underlined that so far 120,000 tests have been carried out through this programme and more than 7,500 cases have been identified at an early stage, with a very good prognosis for treatment.

He also emphasised that, although the tests cause anxiety, “prevention saves”, adding that the goal is to extend prevention programmes to other diseases.
