Economou: State Min Skertsos to be the new gov’t spokesperson until the elections

Minister of State Akis Skertsos will be the government spokesperson in the interim until the May 21 elections, the current government spokesperson Yiannis Economou announced on Thursday.
“Today ends a 615-day cycle of press briefings – 160 in Athens and eight in Thessaloniki – and hundreds of political statements,” said the outgoing spokesperson, explaining that Sunday will mark the start of restrictions regarding the media appearances of parliamentary candidates for specific seats in the upcoming elections, meaning that he cannot continue as spokesperson.
Economou said that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will visit the President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou on Saturday to ask for the dissolution of parliament and the declaration of general elections on May 21.
“In this ballot will be judged who will be the next prime minister and which party will rule. It will decide whether the country will continue to head toward the future with self confidence and stability or whether it will slide back into the past. Whether we manage to protect all that we have accomplished in this difficult four-year term or whether we are going to return to an environment of high taxation, high unemployment, to a Greece of insecurity and open borders, to a Greece that is weak and on the sidelines of Europe”.
