Israel is sending two firefighting aircraft to help Greece deal with the unfolding wildfires, by order of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, it was reported on Wednesday.
The government of Israel will stand by Greece as it fights the fires, and also appreciates the country’s contribution in extinguishing forest fires in Israel over the past decade, Netanyahu tweeted.
These water-dowsing planes are expected to land in Greece on Thursday morning.
Other countries
As Fire Brigade spokesperson Yiannis Artopios announced earlier on Wednesday, help from Romania, Slovakia and Poland is expected to arrive on Thursday and Friday, after Greece requested help through the voluntary RescEU mechanism.
Italy and France already sent Greece four Canadair firefighting planes.
