Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited on Thursday morning the 8th Primary School of Nea Philadelphia, where interventions are to be made to modernize the building infrastructure, within the framework of the "Marietta Giannakou" programme.
“Because the time has come to make a significant intervention in the infrastructure of our schools, starting with the oldest schools, and to continue implementing this programme” prime minister said.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited on Thursday morning the 8th Primary School of Nea Philadelphia, where interventions are to be made to modernize the building infrastructure, within the framework of the “Marietta Giannakou” programme.

The specific programme, with a budget of 350 million euros, will cover, in its first phase, 645 schools in 249 municipalities.

During his visit to the school, the prime minister stated:

“A programme of 350 million euros has been launched, including 100 million euros donated by the Hellenic Bank Association. The programme will be implemented immediately and our goal is to deliver the first schools next September.”

“Because the time has come to make a significant intervention in the infrastructure of our schools, starting with the oldest schools, and to continue implementing this programme, which bears the name of an emblematic politician who is so identified with the reform of public education.”

On his part, the Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports Kyriakos Pierrakakis noted:

“We are here with the prime minister at the 8th Primary School of Nea Philadelphia. The ‘Marietta Giannakou’ programme, which the prime minister announced at the Thessaloniki International Fair, is underway. It started with 250 million euros and another 100 million euros have already been added. We are now in a position to talk about those school units that are prioritized. More than 600 school units will be included in the first phase of the programme this year, and of course this will cover over 80% of the municipality.

It is a very important first step. There will be many interventions, from the courtyards to the classrooms. It is a step that comes to be added to the digital infrastructure upgrade implemented in all schools.”
