Greece’s Klavdia secured a coveted spot in the Eurovision 2025 grand final with her captivating performance of “Asteromata” in Thursday’s Second Semifinal, bolstered by a heartfelt phone call from Greek music icon Nana Mouskouri just hours before the show.
The young singer’s traditional ballad earned her a place among the top 10 qualifiers, joining Armenia, Austria, Denmark, Finland, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, and Malta in Saturday’s finale.
The surprise call from Mouskouri, aired on Greece’s “Studio 4,” left Klavdia visibly moved. “I would like to speak with Klavdia,” Mouskouri said, prompting a stunned response: “Hello, Mrs. Mouskouri, I am Klavdia myself.” Mouskouri praised Klavdia’s choice to perform a traditional song, stating, “First of all, I want to congratulate you on your decision to sing a traditional song, and you sing it very well. I wish you success.”
Klavdia, overcome with emotion, replied, “Thank you so much, Mrs. Mouskouri. It’s a huge honor that you listened to my song and called with such kind words. You’re unparalleled in your field.” Mouskouri shared a personal connection, noting, “We have something in common—our glasses. When I started, they wanted me to take them off, but I refused. Be yourself. Your a cappella moment is brilliant.”
Reflecting on her own Eurovision experience, Mouskouri added, “I placed eighth, but that didn’t matter—I’m still here. Love yourself; it’s a tough journey. Maria Callas told me it’s not what you do, but why and how you do it. Stay dedicated. And please, call me Nana.” Klavdia responded, “You can’t imagine how much this means, especially today before the semifinal.”
Klavdia’s “Asteromata,” composed by Arcade and herself with lyrics by Arcade, was brought to life by creative director Fokas Evangelinos. The performance, centered on themes of separation and the journey toward light, resonated with audiences and judges alike. Greece, performing seventh in the semifinal on May 15 at 22:00 Greek time, emerged as a standout despite Cyprus’s elimination in Tuesday’s first semifinal.
As Klavdia prepares for the grand final, her qualification marks a triumphant moment for Greece’s return to the Eurovision stage, fueled by Mouskouri’s encouragement and a powerful performance that has fans eagerly awaiting Saturday’s showdown.
