A Greek security officer and an Indian security guard working on the Greek-owned freighter ‘Eternity C’, which sank after being hit by Houthis in the Red Sea, were recovered alive on Thursday in a sensational rescue, after spending nearly 48 hours battling the waves, according to sources in the security firm.
The ‘Eternity C’ was attacked with naval drones and rockets on Monday and eventually sank. Four persons on board are dead and at least 15 are missing, both crew and members of the ship’s security team.
According to the European operation “Aspides” providing protection to international shipping in the region, 10 people have so far been rescued after the ship sank – eight Filipinos from the ship’s crew and the two members of its security team. They were rescued by a private company that has undertaken the rescue operation.
The search to find 15 who are still missing – 13 Filipinos and a Russian – continues.
A Greek armed security guard from the vessel Eternity C, which was attacked and sunk by Houthi rebels, has been found alive after approximately 48 hours adrift at sea.
Initial fears that the guard had been abducted by Yemeni rebels were dispelled when rescuers from Diaplous and Ambrey, who had been scouring the area since early Wednesday, located him.
Alongside the Greek guard, four crew members of the Eternity C were also reportedly rescued, according to the latest updates. The ship carried 22 crew members, primarily from the Philippines, and three armed security personnel: two Indians and the Greek guard, who served as the team leader.
Further details are expected soon as the situation develops.
