Greece Submits Sixth EU Recovery Fund Request Worth €2.1 Billion.Greece has formally submitted its sixth payment request to the European Commission under the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), seeking €2.1 billion in grants. This latest installment raises the total EU disbursements to Greece to €23.4 billion—approximately 65% of the country’s total allocation under the recovery plan.
Out of this amount, grants alone now account for €12.04 billion, representing 66% of available grant resources. The Greek government is also preparing to request an additional €1.8 billion in loans from the recovery fund in September.
This sixth payment request reflects significant progress in a series of reforms and investment projects aimed at improving the daily lives of citizens, modernizing public services, and advancing Greece’s green and digital transitions.
Key achievements tied to this request include the first-phase implementation of the Electronic Health Record system and regulatory reforms enhancing the personal doctor scheme. Social benefits are now distributed to 1.3 million eligible citizens via prepaid cards—an initiative designed to improve efficiency and inclusivity.
In infrastructure, contracts have been awarded for the installation of smart LED lighting and a comprehensive road safety upgrade program targeting 7,780 high-risk sites across local and regional roads. Over 150 individual infrastructure projects are included under this initiative, supported by the RRF.
The transition to renewable energy is also advancing, with the subsidized installation of 11,580 photovoltaic systems for households and farmers under the “Photovoltaics on Rooftops” and “Photovoltaics in Fields” schemes.
Meanwhile, the national land registry has reached 95% completion, coupled with a new administrative structure to enhance state efficiency. Fiscal reforms also continue, including the integration of 400,000 cash registers and POS systems into the digital MyData platform, aiming to streamline tax processes and curb evasion.
