Wildfires:Achaia Faces Dangerous Blaze-Emergency Alerts for Evacuations Preveza,Kefalonia–Fires Chios,Arta
A barrage of 112 emergency alerts has urged residents either to remain on high alert or to evacuate dozens of settlements for safety reasons. Approximately 5,000 firefighters and volunteers are involved in the firefighting efforts.

The wildfire situation remains extremely difficult in several parts of Greece, with major fronts burning in Achaia, Zakynthos, Chios, the Atheras area of Kefalonia, and Gymnotopos in Preveza. Firefighting forces are battling tirelessly to contain the blazes. The fire in Achaia is currently out of control, while the Civil Protection service continues to issue mass alerts through the 112 system, with the latest evacuation messages concerning areas in Preveza and Kefalonia.

A barrage of 112 emergency alerts has urged residents either to remain on high alert or to evacuate dozens of settlements for safety reasons. Approximately 5,000 firefighters and volunteers are involved in the firefighting efforts. However, the day is expected to be extremely challenging due to strong winds, prolonged drought, and high temperatures, which are creating explosive fire conditions.

The most dangerous fronts at this time:

  • The wider area around Patras, where two major blazes are burning: one in the Industrial Area (VIPE) and another that has split firefighting resources.
  • The Preveza region, where the fires are near residential areas.

Significant flare-ups are also occurring in ZakynthosChios, and other locations.

Current Fire Fronts:

  • Achaia (Sychaina): The situation has improved somewhat, according to the Fire Service spokesperson. However, fires in Kato Achaia and the Patras Industrial Zone (VIPE) remain active.
  • Preveza (Gymnotopos – Filippiada): The fire has formed two major fronts:
    • One heading toward the settlements of Rizovouni and Romia.
    • Another toward Dryofyto and Pantanassa. Both fronts are moving in the direction of Filippiada.
  • Chios: Two active fire fronts:
    • One between the villages of Pirama and Parparia.
    • The other near Perdika, heading toward the villages of SidirountaDievcha, and Chalandra.
  • Zakynthos: The fire is advancing toward Lithakia, while the front near Keri has shown improvement.
  • Zitsa (Ioannina): The fire is currently not active, with no burning fronts.
