Greece Unveils Its Largest Data Center as Digital Infrastructure Expands
Digital Realty takes over ATH3 in Koropi, marking a major step in Greece’s ambition to become a key tech and cloud hub for Southeast Europe

Greece has officially completed and delivered its largest data center, ATH3, located in Koropi, Attica. The facility, constructed by contractor METLEN and now operated by Digital Realty, is designed to serve not only the Greek market but also clients across Southeast Europe and beyond.

ATH3 offers advanced data storage, management, and global cloud connectivity services. Built to meet international standards for security, performance, and sustainability, it is already attracting interest from major global service providers—underscoring its strategic importance.

This latest addition complements Digital Realty’s existing Greek facilities (Athens-1, Athens-2, and Heraklion-1), strengthening the country’s growing digital ecosystem. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis previously stated his goal for the technology sector to contribute 10% to the national GDP within five years, underlining the significance of such investments.

Meanwhile, France’s DATA4 Group has also entered the Greek market. In late 2024, the company laid the foundation for a €300 million data center campus in Paiania, supported by the Hellenic-French Chamber of Commerce. The first facility is expected to go live by late 2026 or early 2027.

The Paiania campus spans 75,000 square meters and is part of DATA4’s broader €7 billion European investment planthrough 2030, which aims to establish it as Europe’s leading data center provider. Over 500 permanent jobs are projected to be created in Greece alone.

With these major moves, Greece is rapidly positioning itself as a regional digital hub, leveraging its geographical location and growing tech infrastructure to attract international players in cloud and data services.
