Mitsotakis: Modern Pediatric Hospital, 17 New Schools and €120m Redevelopment of Thessaloniki’s Fairgrounds
A comprehensive urban and social upgrade for the city – Health, Education, Transport and Green space at the forefront

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, presenting the government’s projects in Thessaloniki, declared that “such works had not been carried out for decades.”

Health & Education Priorities

  • By early 2027, the city will host “the most modern and functional pediatric hospital in Europe.”
  • 17 new schools will be delivered by 2026, strengthening educational infrastructure.
  • University campuses have been “returned to their rightful owners: professors, students, and society,” the PM noted.

Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) Redevelopment

The government pledges €120 million in national funding for the project:

  • Renovation of the iconic “Velidion” Conference Center.
  • Expansion of green areas across the fairgrounds.
  • Construction of a 600-space underground parking lot.

“No hotels, no private sector involvement – we will preserve the same footprint and enhance this landmark of the city,” Mitsotakis stressed.

Metro Extension

The metro line will reach Kalamaria by Q1 2026, while additional urban interventions are also planned.

Economy: Greece vs. France

Mitsotakis contrasted Greece’s fiscal path with that of other EU countries:

  • “While others, like France, must raise taxes or cut spending, Greece produces surpluses that allow us to reduce taxes and increase spending in key areas like Health and Education.”

Concluding his address, he reaffirmed: “We said it, and we are delivering it.”
