The strong seismic tremor was felt across Evia and Attica, with no reports of damage or injuries so far.

At 00:27 early Tuesday morning, September 9, 2025, a magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck the sea area between Schinias and Nea Styra in Evia, with a focal depth of 13.6 km.

  • Aftershocks: Approximately 25 smaller tremors recorded until 06:00, ranging from 1.3 to 2.8 Richter.

Authorities’ Response and Reassurances

The Committee for Seismic Risk Assessment and Seismic Hazard met urgently and concluded that the area does not exhibit high seismicity and there is no reason for concern.

Professor of Geology and OASP President, Efthymios Lekkas, stated: “There is absolutely no reason for worry.”

The Fire Service deployed patrols across southern Evia and eastern Attica, with the 1st and 7th EMAK units on standby. So far, no damage or casualties have been reported.

During the earthquake, footage captured supermarket shelves shaking and bottles falling in Evia. Journalists were also caught off-guard on air by the tremor.
