A high-level meeting on the future of Artificial Intelligence took place at the Maximos Mansion, chaired by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.Adding international weight to the discussion was the presence of Google DeepMind CEO, Demis Hassabis.
The Prime Minister emphasized: “We have a very detailed strategy regarding the role and position Greece can play in the global AI environment. There are areas, such as education and healthcare, where we can make enormous progress and be at the forefront of innovation.”
He also stressed that “Greece has a very dynamic innovation ecosystem”, highlighting concerns about the protection of minors and the role of AI in shaping the public sphere.
Greece’s Role in the Global AI Map
Speaking directly to the Prime Minister, Demis Hassabis noted:“Greece has an important role to play in innovation and can push the EU toward stronger partnerships with allies such as the UK and the US, ensuring that artificial intelligence is used productively.”
According to the Google DeepMind CEO, Greece has the potential to emerge as an innovation hub, provided it combines government initiatives, academic research, and private investment.
Beyond Technology – The Social Dimension
The discussion went beyond technical aspects, addressing societal concerns about AI. Prime Minister Mitsotakis underlined that the ultimate goal is to harness technology responsibly and safely.
