With the slogan “A Greece for All,” PASOK President Nikos Androulakis took the stage at the 89th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) to outline a wide-ranging policy platform centered on social cohesion, economic recovery, and the productive transformation of the country.
This was his first appearance at TIF as leader of the official opposition, and he used it to send a clear message: PASOK is ready to open a new chapter for Greece, with credibility, institutional seriousness, and a strategic plan without populist shortcuts.
Leadership Tone with Institutional Focus
Androulakis deliberately gave his presence at TIF the tone of a statesman in waiting, seeking to project readiness for government and distance from easy promises.
“Greece doesn’t need more populism. It needs a new productive model, one that serves social justice, regional growth, and long-term sustainability,” he emphasized.
His speech was marked by an effort to balance economic realism with social sensitivity, carving a middle ground between austerity-driven conservatism and unrealistic populism.
Key Pillars of the PASOK Agenda
The PASOK program proposes a blend of targeted reforms aimed at addressing both structural and immediate challenges, including:
- Combating demographic decline and supporting young people
- Index-linking tax brackets to inflation
- Zero VAT on essential goods
- Tax relief for families with three or more children
- Reinstatement of the 13th salary in the public sector
- Gradual phase-out of the solidarity contribution
- Abolition of the “personal difference” in pensions
- Creation of a new EKAS allowance for low-income pensioners
- Legal safeguards for primary residence protection
- Regional development plans for every part of the country
These proposals aim to restore fairness, support vulnerable groups, and revive local economies across Greece.
A Responsible Alternative Between Two Extremes
Androulakis presented PASOK as the only political force capable of combining social policy with institutional reliability. Without naming SYRIZA directly, he criticized the populism of the past decade that, as he noted, “undermined public trust in politics.”
At the same time, he took aim at the current government, emphasizing the need for a break from the policies of the Mitsotakis administration, which he described as disconnected from social realities and development needs.
“We want a country that works for everyone—not just for the privileged few,” Androulakis said, underscoring his party’s message.
