“Adonis Georgiadis: Greece Must Stand Tall – UN, ICC, and Israel’s Strategic Value”

Greece cannot remain silent in the face of international developments. I am not here to say what is convenient, but what serves our homeland and the truth. My statements regarding the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the UN caused reactions, but Greece needs politicians who are not afraid to express concerns and arguments.

My Position on the International Criminal Court (ICC)

The ICC is a court that neither the U.S. nor Israel fully recognize. We recognize it, but that does not mean it should be considered above criticism. Many of its decisions are often influenced by political considerations rather than strict justice.

When a journalist reminded me that Greece recognizes the court, I responded that this is “very wrong” because, in reality, these courts often play politics rather than administer justice.

The government spokesperson emphasized that the Prime Minister upholds the country’s long-standing position and recognizes the court, but I highlighted the need for critical thinking and responsibility.

Israel’s Strategic Importance to Greece

Israel is a strategic partner, a serious nation with historical depth, technological, military, and economic power. Our close relations with Israel strengthen Greece’s security and geopolitical position.

Jerusalem is a Jewish city, founded by the Jews and remains a sacred place for them. To claim it is half-and-half just for political convenience would be like denying the historical significance of areas like Smyrna or Constantinople for Hellenism.

In geopolitics, “romantics” do not survive, only realists do. Countries like Greece need strong and reliable allies.

The UN and Its Credibility

I read the UN’s recent report on Gaza. I won’t exaggerate, but questions must be asked: When UN officials are accused of collaborating with Hamas, entering tunnels, or using fake identities, why does the UN not respond?

For credibility, the UN must be held accountable. Silence is equivalent to doubt. Greece cannot demand respect when international organizations ignore serious allegations.

Why I Admire Israel – The Full Post by Adonis Georgiadis

These days, with high polarization due to the Gaza war, I have publicly taken a clear stance in favor of Israel, and many ask why I have exposed myself so much.

I could mention many obvious reasons:

  • It is the only democracy in the Middle East respecting human rights.
  • It has brought immense progress to science, with the most Nobel laureates per capita in the world.
  • It fights for its survival, as its enemies do not merely seek to defeat it but aim for its complete annihilation.
  • The current war in Gaza did not start with Israel, but as a result of a terrorist attack by Hamas.
  • It is Greece’s most important strategic ally and Turkey’s greatest adversary.

Yet none of this is the core reason. The truth is:

“I support Israel because I admire it! I admire their state, I admire the Jewish people.

I am convinced that the main source of antisemitism throughout history, and still today, is envy—for an ancient people who, despite immense suffering, stand today triumphant.

Example 1: Language and Education

Modern Israel speaks Hebrew (Ivrit), a revival of Biblical/Ancient Hebrew adapted for everyday use.

Eliezer Ben-Yehuda (1858–1922) believed that to regain national identity, the Jewish people had to speak their own living language. He created a dictionary, invented new words, and promoted the language in schools and newspapers.

While we moved away from Greek to avoid burdening children, the Jews learned Ancient Hebrew from scratch, and today are leaders in science and technology.

Example 2: Military Service and Collective Commitment

All Israelis serve in the military, men and women alike. Their country is smaller than Greece, their population smaller, yet they fight continuously against vastly superior enemies and remain strong.

Greece, by contrast, often reduces military service under political pressure, compromising national defense.

Lessons for Greece

Greece must stand tall, with dignity, realism, and a voice unafraid to challenge even powerful organizations.

“Yes, with Israel – and may we emulate them!”

P.S.: The first step to reversing collective decline is education in ancient Greek language, history, and mythology from the first grade, shaping characters as in the Greek Agoge. Israel’s example shows the path to national rebirth and collective pride.
