Patriotic Support for Citizens
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis outlined the government’s measures to support Greek incomes, sending a clear message: New Democracy is the only party capable of steering the country through turbulent times.
He highlighted the tax cuts effective from January 1, which will directly benefit 4.3 million taxpayers, boosting wages and pensions in practice.
According to government figures, each new measure represents a 5–7% increase in real income for average workers and pensioners, while young people under 25 earning up to €20,000 will permanently pay no income tax.
Clash with the Opposition
Mitsotakis also criticized the opposition: “The problem with the political scene is not the number of parties but the absence of real proposals,” he said. He stressed that the so-called “patriotic measures” of opposition parties do not translate into tangible benefits for citizens.
“We prioritize patriotic tax cuts. When others color their money trees green, we present costed, concrete plans showing how millions of Greeks will benefit,” he added.
Five Pillars of Government Policy
The Prime Minister outlined the five key interventions that will shape Greece’s course until the 2027 elections:
- Supporting the middle class and families in the regions.
- Continuous tax reductions to protect disposable income and counter inflation.
- Reforms to improve government efficiency.
- Security everywhere – next academic year will start without any active university occupations.
- Building a strong Greece – safeguarding borders, upgrading military salaries, and modernizing military assets, including the acquisition of a 4th Bellhara and upgrading the other three.
Support for the Regions and Vulnerable Groups
According to Mitsotakis, ND is the party of the many, the youth, and families:
- Zero property tax (ENFIA) in 12,710 settlements.
- 30% VAT reduction for remote islands starting January 1, 2026.
- Abolition of pension personal differences from 2027.
- €250 allowance for the most vulnerable in November.
- Partial rent reimbursement for tenants – equivalent to an 8% rent reduction.
“We redirect the dividends of growth and tackling tax evasion straight into citizens’ pockets,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
Achievements in Governance and Economy
Government data presented:
- In 2025, the ND parliamentary group made 4,310 interventions in the plenary, over 2,300 in committees, and passed 63 bills.
- The government fully utilized its fiscal space without risking European stability.
- Tax reductions are coupled with increases in wages and pensions, helping households fight rising prices.
Strategy and Foreign Policy
Mitsotakis also highlighted key foreign policy successes:
- Maritime spatial planning and marine parks.
- Chevron’s interest in four blocks south of Crete, reinforcing Greece’s sovereign rights.
Greece remains strong and committed to defending its national interests amid international challenges.
Elections and Outlook
The Prime Minister reiterated that elections will take place in spring 2027, emphasizing continued reformist policies, transparency, and accountability while addressing bureaucracy and state inefficiencies.
“When we put our work to the test of the people, we can say that we said it and we did it. ND is the only force capable of holding the wheel in these difficult times,” he concluded, urging all party members to support consistent, realistic government policies.
