Kyriakos Mitsotakis Meets Kimberly Guilfoyle in New York: A New Chapter in Greek-American Relations
Greek Prime Minister engages in high-level discussions with the incoming U.S. Ambassador to Greece and highlights Greece’s strategic role in Europe-Gulf cooperation.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held a series of high-level meetings during his visit to New York for the United Nations General Assembly, including an inaugural meeting with Kimberly Guilfoyle, the incoming U.S. Ambassador to Greece.

Ms. Guilfoyle, who is set to be officially sworn in on Monday and assume her duties in Athens by the end of October, met with the Prime Minister in a positive and constructive atmosphere, marking the start of a new chapter in Greek-American relations. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed prospects for deepening cooperation between Athens and Washington across political, economic, and strategic dimensions.

Greece as a Strategic Bridge

In parallel, Prime Minister Mitsotakis participated in a session organized by the Atlantic Council and the Antenna Group, focusing on EU cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states. The session was part of the AEGGIS initiative (Alliance for Europe-Gulf Geopolitics & Investments Summit), which aims to strengthen geopolitical and economic ties between Europe and the Middle East.

During his remarks, Mitsotakis emphasized Greece’s potential role as a political, commercial, and energy bridge connecting India, the Gulf states, and Europe. He highlighted Greece’s stable institutional environment and strategic geographic location, noting that the country can serve as a gateway for the transfer of energy, goods, and capital.

“Greece represents a natural investment destination for Gulf countries, offering stability, strategic positioning, and opportunities to facilitate economic and energy flows between Europe and the Middle East,” the Prime Minister stated.

The meeting with Ambassador Guilfoyle and participation in the AEGGIS summit underscore Greece’s ambition to strengthen bilateral relations with the United States while playing a central role in EU-Middle East geopolitics and investments.
