European Defense Without Geographic Limits Demanded by Mitsotakis
From Copenhagen, the Prime Minister emphasizes the need for a holistic security strategy covering the entire continent, focusing on missile defense and counter-drone measures.

The time for joint European defense projects has arrived, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed upon his arrival at the informal European Union Summit in Copenhagen on Wednesday (01.10).

Greece calls for European security not to be limited only to the eastern borders of the continent but to cover all of Europe, including the southern and southeastern regions.

“Europe must now mobilize European resources for joint defense projects such as missile defense and protection against drone incursions — plans proposed by the European Commission and set to be discussed today,” the Prime Minister said.

Mitsotakis: Europe Must Be Shielded as a Whole, Not Just at Its Eastern Borders

The Prime Minister underlined that security must be addressed comprehensively, as threats to Europe come from multiple fronts and cannot be geographically confined.

“Protection must cover the eastern, southeastern, but also the southern borders, so that Europe can be fortified against any future threat,” he added.

The ongoing war in Ukraine, combined with global geopolitical upheavals, demands urgent and practical strengthening of European security, according to Mitsotakis.

Greece Calls for a Common European Defense with a Continent-Wide Outlook

Greece, he noted, is among the countries maintaining defense spending above 3% of GDP, well above the European average, and is committed to continuing its investments in defense.

The Prime Minister urged Europe to move from words to deeds and create effective joint defense projects that will enhance the security of the entire continent.

“The Time for Action on European Defense Has Come,” Says Mitsotakis

The need for joint European defense projects is more urgent than ever, as global geopolitical uncertainty and the war in Ukraine have exposed vulnerabilities in Europe’s security framework.

Proposed plans such as missile defense systems and counter-drone protection must be funded by European resources and implemented without geographic restrictions, Mitsotakis emphasized.
