The political scene has been shaken by revelations of potential irregularities in OPEKEPE subsidies in Lake Karla, centering on Nikos Bunakis, Deputy Head of PASOK’s Agricultural Development and Food Sector.
Athens Mayor and PASOK official Haris Doukas, in a public statement on social media, called on party leader Nikos Androulakis to provide “clear and substantiated explanations,” warning that if any PASOK official is found responsible, expulsion is the only acceptable course of action.
The allegations were made by former Deputy Minister and New Democracy MP of Magnesia, Christos Boukoros, who claimed that a Declaration Reception Center (KYD) in Crete submitted hundreds of hectares of public land as eligible for subsidies, without the beneficiaries having any connection to the area, covering the years 2022–2025.
The consultancy firm Proactive S.A., led by Bunakis, is implicated according to the reports. Bunakis denies any wrongdoing, emphasizing that the KYD has no authority to verify rental contracts submitted by producers, as all documentation is approved and audited by OPEKEPE and the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE).
The political dispute is intensifying: Doukas insists that “for PASOK, issues of transparency and legality are non-negotiable,” while New Democracy is pressing for a full investigation into the scandal. The case is expected to test PASOK’s commitment to accountability and public trust.
This controversy opens a new chapter in political battles over the agricultural sector and subsidies, raising pressing questions about transparency, oversight, and the responsibility of party officials.
