The Prime Minister backs international peace efforts in the Middle East while promoting key reforms in defense, economy, and social policy at home.

In a time of international instability and growing domestic challenges, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is navigating a delicate balancing act. He supports diplomatic efforts to end the war in Gaza while pushing forward a comprehensive internal agenda focused on social cohesion, defense modernization, and economic reform.

On the International Front: Realistic Path to Peace

Speaking from Amorgos, where he presented the “Amorgorama” program for sustainable fishing and marine protection, Mitsotakis expressed Greece’s readiness to actively participate in diplomatic efforts for de-escalation in Gaza.

Commenting on recent developments following the Trump peace initiative, he stated:“The announcements made by Hamas are a significant step. All hostages must be released immediately, hostilities must cease, and humanitarian aid must be intensified.”

The Prime Minister emphasized the need to keep the two-state solution alive, calling it the only viable path to lasting peace in the region. He also confirmed that Greece remains in “constant contact with allies and regional partners,” ready to contribute to a sustainable governance model for Gaza.

On the Domestic Front: Reforms and Defense Readiness

In the same weekly address, Mitsotakis outlined a series of government initiatives in key policy areas aimed at reinforcing economic and social stability. These include:

  • €1.7 billion tax reform package,
  • Measures to combat inflation and stabilize energy prices,
  • Actions targeting unemployment reduction,
  • Reinforcement of the health, education, and labor sectors.

New Defense Blueprint: Strategic Modernization

A major focus of the address was the reorganization of the Greek Armed Forces, signaling a clear national security strategy centered on:

  1. robust rearmament program, including new frigates from France and Italy,
  2. Restructuring of military personnel,
  3. Salary increases for armed forces members,
  4. large-scale housing initiative for military families.

Mitsotakis framed these moves as both practical and symbolic, sending a dual message:“These actions are our patriotic response — to those within the country who express concern, and to those abroad who question our resolve.”

Migration Policy and Cultural Development

The Prime Minister also touched on legal migration, presenting it as an opportunity rather than a threat. With clear rules and integration paths, the policy aims to address labor needs in key sectors.

Additionally, he announced new cultural master plans for 15 cities and islands, combining heritage preservation with local development strategies.

A Strategy of Dual Focus

Mitsotakis’ latest statements reflect a dual-focus strategy: strengthening Greece’s role as a reliable international partner while reinforcing national resilience through reforms and targeted investments.

With rising pressure for a resolution in the Middle East and growing domestic discontent due to inflation and uncertainty, the government appears committed to a governance model that addresses both external diplomacy and internal stability with equal priority.
