Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Gaza: Greece Will Claim a Role in the Post-Conflict Reconstruction of Gaza

Standing at the podium of the Greek Parliament, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis outlined the government’s strategic approach to foreign policy amid a period of geopolitical upheaval and increasing challenges.

The Prime Minister’s speech focused on the key pillars guiding Greece’s external policy, addressing critical issues such as Greek-Turkish relations, developments in the Middle EastEuropean challenges, and the pivotal Greek-American partnership for the country’s security.

“I come to today’s debate with a sense of responsibility and a willingness to build consensus, to speak truths about our foreign policy,” Mitsotakis stressed at the beginning of his address, noting that over the past six years Greece has fiercely defended its national interests while promoting peace and stability in the region.

National Defense Supported by Active Diplomacy

The Prime Minister highlighted that “we ensure stability through preparedness,” emphasizing the vital link between military strength and active diplomacy. He added that Greece now stands tall and proud as an equal partner within the European Union and NATO, having elevated its geopolitical role, particularly as an energy hub in the Balkans and beyond.

Greece and the Gaza Crisis

In response to the special parliamentary session on the Palestinian issue, Mitsotakis emphasized that “Greece will claim a role in shaping the next chapter for Gaza,” signaling the country’s intention to play an active part in post-conflict reconstruction and stabilization. This stance fits within Greece’s broader foreign policy framework aimed at fostering peace and stability in the Middle East.

At the same time, the Prime Minister underscored the need for responsibility and seriousness in public discourse, stating that “national decisions are not made in cafes or television panels with catchy slogans or empty rhetoric.”

The government’s strategy also includes strengthening international alliances, with particular emphasis on close cooperation with the United States and the European Union, alongside continuous enhancement of national defense capabilities combined with proactive diplomacy at all levels.

In the Midst of Global Turmoil

The current geopolitical climate is marked by significant shifts and regional crises, making Greece’s foreign policy more crucial than ever. Faced with ongoing provocations from Turkey, developments in the Middle East, and energy security concerns, Greece has prioritized safeguarding its sovereign rights — always grounded in international law.

“Greece has proven that it knows how to exercise its sovereign rights responsibly and with a long-term strategic vision. The stability and security of our homeland is the ultimate priority, and through close cooperation between our military and diplomatic efforts, we secure a future of peace and prosperity for all Greeks,” concluded Kyriakos Mitsotakis in his closing remarks.
