Small rebound for New Democracy, declines for SYRIZA and PASOK – New political movements reshape the center-left

The latest Metron Analysis poll for October, presented on Mega News, shows a slight recovery for New Democracy (ND), while highlighting the disruptions caused by the upcoming new political movements led by Alexis Tsipras and Kostas Samaras.

Key Findings of the Poll

  • New Democracy (ND): 28.7% (+0.5 points from September)
  • PASOK: 12.8% (-0.7 points)
  • Greek Solution: 11.7% (stable)
  • KKE (Communist Party): 10% (+0.3 points)
  • Plefsi Eleftherias: 9.9% (stable)
  • SYRIZA: declining by 1.3 points ahead of Tsipras’ new party
  • Voice of Reason: slight decrease as attention shifts to the upcoming “Samaras Party”

The results outline a nine-party parliamentary landscape, where the traditional ND–SYRIZA/PASOK opposition is gradually reshaped by new forces and movements within both the center-left and right. dimoskopiseis

Analysis of Trends

New Democracy appears to capitalize on the decline of traditional opposition parties, gaining half a percentage point. SYRIZA’s decline (-1.3 points) is primarily attributed to anticipation surrounding Tsipras’ new political party, which is already absorbing part of its electoral base.

PASOK, falling to 12.8%, faces a fragmentation of the center-left, as new political formations compete for the same voter segment.

The stability of the Greek Solution and the small increase in KKE indicate a solid voter base at the political extremes, while Plefsi Eleftherias maintains its momentum near 10%.

Impact of New Parties

The expected launch of the “Tsipras Party” is already causing shifts:

  • SYRIZA loses influence even before the party officially appears.
  • The center-left risks splitting into several smaller formations, weakening political cohesion.
  • The right watches closely, as voter movements could either strengthen ND or create turbulence around Samaras’ new party.

This dynamic shows that the next election will be fought in a multi-party environment, where political balances can shift rapidly.
