Greece’s capital is once again at the center of the international stage, as the 6th Ministerial Meeting of the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation (P-TEC) brings top officials from 25 countries to Athens, including three former Trump administration officials: Chris Wright, Doug Bergam, and Greek-American Michael Rigas.
The Greek government, led by Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou, emphasizes that Athens will serve as a “geostrategic gateway for U.S. LNG into Europe” and as a hub for investment and technological innovation in renewables and energy storage.
“Our country will be at the heart of global energy developments,” said Papastavrou, highlighting the dual objective: strengthening Greece’s geostrategic position and securing commercial deals with significant economic benefits.
The P-TEC summit, a platform for diversifying energy sources and enhancing Europe’s energy security, will focus on liquefied natural gas (LNG), network connectivity, and clean technologies. The presence of the Trump-affiliated officials sends a strong political and diplomatic signal: Greece is consolidating its role in transatlantic energy networks while deepening ties with the U.S. and NATO.
Analysts note that Athens’ selection for this year’s meeting is no coincidence. With its investments in renewables and subsea networks, Greece is becoming a key player in Southeastern Europe’s energy stability and in securing Europe’s LNG supply.

The agenda also includes issues of Greece’s energy independence, as the government promotes strategic partnerships with global energy giants, such as Chevron and Helleniq Energy, for hydrocarbon development and infrastructure. “We are racing to secure our nation’s future,” Papastavrou said, emphasizing the urgent need for immediate action.
Politically, the summit marks a new chapter in Greece-U.S. relations, with clear American support for Greek energy strategy, while also reinforcing Greece’s role in NATO security and transatlantic cooperation. The decisions and agreements emerging over the next few days are expected to have major geopolitical and economic impacts, not just for Greece but for the entire Southeastern European region.
The presence of the former Trump officials, combined with Greek strategic planning, shows that Athens is not just a spectator, but a central player in Europe’s new energy chessboard and the Atlantic arena.
