Petsas: “ELTA Will Stand Strong – No Abandonment of the Regions”
OPEKEPE and ELTA under the Microscope – Petsas Talks Responsibility, Not Excuses

ND MP Stelios Petsas today addressed pressing issues concerning ELTA and OPEKEPE, defending both the government’s approach and the need to combine political responsibility with social sensitivity.

In an interview highlighting the social impact of the decisions, Petsas emphasized that the government is acting with strategy and foresight, despite criticism from the opposition:

“The ELTA issue is not only technical, but also social and political,” he said. “It affects elderly citizens, people in remote areas, and urban centers. We have proposed solutions, and measures are already being implemented.”

ELTA: Suspension and Solutions

ELTA’s management has faced intense scrutiny, with critics labeling it hasty and poorly coordinated. Petsas, however, stressed that the government’s approach focuses on finding practical solutions and fostering cooperation:“We do not accept surprises. We must ensure that citizens do not experience a reduction of services, even in the most remote areas,” he emphasized.

He highlighted the need for cooperation between ELTA, agencies, and digital services, so that the temporary suspension of branches does not harm citizens:“Where there has been carelessness, it must be corrected. The suspension should be used to strengthen cooperation and maintain services,” he said.

This stance underscores Petsas as a practical and responsible politician, prioritizing social sustainability and citizen service.

Agricultural Subsidies and OPEKEPE

The discussion also addressed OPEKEPE and delays in agricultural payments. Petsas emphasized that the government has already taken action to accelerate payments to farmers and livestock breeders, and advocated generous compensation for losses caused by outbreaks such as foot-and-mouth disease:“People do not have funds for feed. Without adequate compensation, the outbreak will not stop. We must truly support our farmers,” he said.

He also pointed out that past delays cannot be used to undermine the current government’s efforts:“After 6.5 years of governance, we cannot accept claims that ELTA or OPEKEPE are going bankrupt. There is a plan, there is will, and there will be results.”

Digital Accessibility and Social Dimension

Petsas stressed the critical need for digital accessibility, especially for elderly and disabled citizens, linking digital development with social protection:“Greece must not become a digital desert. ELTA, banks, and public services must remain accessible to everyone,” he emphasized.

This highlights the MP’s broad social awareness, connecting government action with practical and immediate results for citizens.

Analysis and Political Message

Petsas’ stance demonstrates ND’s goal to combine:

  • Political responsibility: acknowledging and correcting mistakes without delay.
  • Social sensitivity: protecting citizens, particularly vulnerable groups.
  • Economic and digital strategy: ensuring institutional sustainability and expanding digital services.

The public statements by Petsas send a message of stability and accountability: the government acts proactively, does not hide, and ensures that no citizen is left behind, whether in rural areas or the agricultural sector.“At the end of the day, citizens will judge whether the country is moving forward or backward. We take responsibility, but we move forward,” he concluded.
