Samaras Under Fire from Gerapetritis: The Country Can’t Endure Hostility
The Samaras–Gerapetritis clash escalates – Sharp barbs, insinuations, and diplomatic tensions shake the ND party

Internal tensions within New Democracy are now taking the form of a full-blown clash, with Antonis Samaras and Giorgos Gerapetritis at the center of the storm.

In his interview with ANT1, the former prime minister did not mince words, reiterating pointed criticisms of the current leadership:

  • “Greece is losing time while our neighbors act strategically. I see no vision from those currently in power.”
  • “Some think the country can grow on its own. Decisions and expertise are needed. Unfortunately, personal obsessions often prevail.”

These statements sent a clear message questioning the government’s diplomatic strategy, targeting not only the political leadership but also Greece’s international image.

The response was swift and sharp from the Foreign Minister:

  • “Hostility and ambition-driven policies in foreign affairs are certainly destructive for the country,” Gerapetritis emphasized, sending a message to anyone attempting personal or factional detours from a unified diplomatic line.
  • He also highlighted that Greece now possesses a strong diplomatic capital, with alliances and participation in international organizations, and that the government is working to capitalize on this strength to protect the country from regional tensions.

Behind the scenes, party insiders in both the party and the Prime Minister’s Office suggest that Samaras’ statements stoke internal divisions and risk creating complications in sensitive diplomatic matters, particularly concerning neighboring countries and the Eastern Mediterranean.

On the other hand, Samaras remains determined to maintain his aggressive stance, reminding the public that:

  • “The country needs planning, vision, and decisiveness. Those who live only by political obsessions harm Greece’s future.”

As words like “inaction”“hostility”, and “ambition-driven” hover over political offices, everyone knows that in foreign policy, there are no second chances – only political blood or diplomatic scars…
