Stelios Petsas: From Energy to Income, Greece is Strengthening Everywhere
With steady policy, diversified energy sources, and measures to support citizens’ income, Greece strengthens its geopolitical position and economic resilience.

In his recent interview on MEGA, ND MP Stelios Petsas clearly presented the strategy guiding Greece on geopolitical, energy, and social fronts, emphasizing the need for stability and growth across all areas.

Petsas highlighted that international partnerships and diversified energy sources make the country less vulnerable and more self-sufficient:“Our policy goal is to be less vulnerable and more self-reliant, ensuring energy security and economic stability,” he said.

This strategy includes investments in LNG, Azeri natural gas, and partnerships with international players, allowing Greece to maintain strong ties with Europe and the U.S. while avoiding dependence on a single energy source. “Greece is not isolated, but strengthens its position in every major international arena, from energy cooperation to geopolitical strategy,” Petsas emphasized.

Beyond energy issues, Petsas stressed the importance of citizens’ income and daily support. He explained: “We will do two things. First, we will strengthen citizens’ income to cope with high prices, whether for food or energy. Income is a key factor for citizens to live with dignity.”

In this context, he highlighted tax and social contribution reductions to increase disposable income, as well as housing support measures such as the “My Home 1 & 2” programs, social allowances, and enhanced rental subsidies.

Petsas also stressed the need for pressure on banks and funds to restructure loans and sell properties, increasing market supply and reducing housing cost pressures.

On taxation, he emphasized the importance of further tax reductions and combating the shadow economy:“Tax evasion has decreased significantly in recent years, but to make the leap we need, we will continue to lower taxes, increase transparency, and boost public revenue.”

With clarity and determination, Stelios Petsas outlined a comprehensive plan covering energy, income, and social support, demonstrating that Greece can become a pillar of stability and growth in the region. “With strategy, planning, and determination, Greece is strengthening everywhere,” he concluded, summarizing his vision for a secure, economically strong, and internationally recognized country.

Geopolitical Upgrading and Energy Diversification

Petsas commented on international agreements and Greece’s upgrading, dismissing early doubts about the Trump administration’s stance toward Kyriakos Mitsotakis: “These agreements show that those who expected a negative stance were proven wrong. Greece is upgrading geopolitically and economically.”

Specifically regarding energy, he stressed the importance of diversifying energy sources: “No country can rely solely on Russia for natural gas. Our strategy includes LNG and other sources to make us less vulnerable.”

In terms of agreements and international cooperation:

  • Greece strengthens its geopolitical position without any isolation.
  • The agreements ensure economic and energy benefits for the country.
  • The energy diversification strategy includes Azerbaijan, the U.S., Europe, and LNG, reducing dependence on Russia.

Petsas reiterated that the strategy is cross-governmental and long-term, covering previous administrations, not just the current one: “The country’s strategic choice is diversified, long-term, and implemented across governments, ensuring security and stability.”

Finally, he emphasized that Greece must remain open to international cooperation and support, aiming for an energy mix that reduces dependence on any single source and strengthens its bargaining power.“With diversified energy sources and a geopolitical strategy, Greece becomes more credible and secure,” he concluded.
