Zelensky introduces a new 20-point plan
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is attempting to shift the responsibility for accepting the revised 20-point plan to Vladimir Putin, after confirming that the U.S. and Ukraine have reached an agreement on the new framework, a revised version of the original 28-point plan.
In a press conference in Dublin, Zelensky said the original proposal was reduced to 20 points in Geneva and “finalized” during talks in Florida. He described the current stage of negotiations as “one of the most challenging yet hopeful moments for peace in Ukraine.”
“Now more than ever, there is a real opportunity to end this war,” he stressed.
The most sensitive issues of the plan
Zelensky did not reveal all details of the plan but highlighted the three most sensitive and difficult issues:
- Territorial concessions – directly linked to Ukraine’s sovereignty and internationally recognized borders.
- Use of frozen Russian assets, which depends on European leaders since most are held in Europe.
- The “coalition of the willing”, a group of states that would support and guarantee the implementation of any future peace agreement beyond NATO and the EU.
The president emphasized that this is an active blame game, knowing that Putin is unlikely to accept a plan involving territorial concessions.
Potential meeting with Trump
Zelensky stated that he is ready to meet again with Donald Trump and continue discussions with Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, if a real dialogue can take place.
“If I feel we can rely on a concrete, genuine dialogue, not just words, we will meet, and he is very welcome in Ukraine,” he said, without specifying a date.
The Ukrainian president added that he will react to today’s U.S. talks in the Kremlin based on the results.
Ireland backs Ukraine
Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin stressed the need for a peaceful settlement and declared that Ireland supports the use of frozen Russian assets for reconstruction and economic support of Ukraine.
He noted that Russia continues its relentless attacks, showing complete disregard for international law, and that small countries like Ireland rely on it for security and protection.
Martin emphasized that Putin must never be allowed to succeed and announced that he will sign a partnership agreement with Zelensky to strengthen support for Ukraine.
