From the Aegean to the Atlantic, Greece emerges as a key energy pivot, with U.S. LNG strengthening Europe’s energy security and strategic stability.

Greece at the Center of Energy Realignment

Greece is evolving into a critical geopolitical and energy hub, according to Minister of Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastavrou, speaking on Fox Business’ Varney & Co.

He emphasized that “From the Aegean to the Atlantic, energy is reshaping the geopolitical architecture, and Greece is the central pillar of this new structure.”

Leveraging its strategic location at the crossroads of three continents, Greece is positioning itself as a gateway for U.S. LNG to Central Europe, gradually replacing Russian natural gas.

Infrastructure That Makes the Difference

Papastavrou highlighted Greece’s key LNG infrastructure:

  • Revythoussa Terminal: The Mediterranean’s main LNG hub.
  • FSRU Alexandroupolis: Floating regasification unit crucial for Central and Eastern Europe supply.

“Greece has the ideal location and infrastructure to serve as the entry point for U.S. LNG into Europe,” he said, noting that agreements with American exporters are already signed and that LNG will even reach Ukraine.

Supporting Ukraine Through LNG

Greece is not limiting its energy role to Europe alone. Papastavrou noted that in cooperation with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Greece will supply approximately 0.3 billion cubic meters of LNG in February and March, helping Ukraine recover from infrastructure damage caused by Russia.

The deal was signed in the presence of U.S. Ambassador Guilfoyle, who played a pivotal role in the energy realignment.

Greece’s Strategic Value

Greece is emerging as a critical energy hub for Europe, combining:

  • Strategic geographic location: Crossroads of three continents.
  • Cutting-edge infrastructure: LNG terminals and FSRU units.
  • Stable political and economic environment: Ensures investment security.
  • Strategic U.S. partnership: Boosts European energy independence.

This strategy positions Greece as a pillar of geopolitical and energy stability, with long-term regional impact.

 Greece, Europe’s LNG Gateway

Under Stavros Papastavrou’s guidance, Greece is transforming into a key energy hub, strengthening Europe’s energy security while supporting Ukraine.

The strategic use of LNG infrastructure and international partnerships makes Greece an indispensable actor in the new geopolitical energy architecture, stretching from the Aegean to the Atlantic.
