Androulakis: “Greece under ND stuck in Europe’s last wagon – Urgent political change needed”

Fierce criticism of the ND government and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was delivered by PASOK-Center Alliance leader Nikos Androulakis from the Greek Parliament podium during the debate on the 2026 State Budget.

“The budget debate is the moment of truth for every government,” he stressed, noting that under ND, Greece remains stuck in Europe’s last wagon, with policies that produce stagnation, pessimism, and uncertainty.

Androulakis accused the government of “Hellenic economic disempowerment” and mismanagement of Recovery Fund resources: “In three years, you disbursed barely half the funds, while Portugal and Spain achieved higher growth with far less.”

The PASOK leader’s speech focused on pressing social and economic issues:

• High cost of living and declining purchasing power for households
• Agricultural sector under pressure, with insufficient subsidies and rising production costs
• SMEs trapped in financial distress with high private debt
• Young workforce struggling with low wages, long hours, clientelism, and lack of meritocracy
• Local governments nearing financial collapse

“If the ND government does not quickly leave office, we will face new crises and deadlocks,” he warned, emphasizing that ND’s policies lead to social stagnation and leave Greece among the lowest in Europe regarding income and investment.

Androulakis also proposed concrete measures to support farmers and production:

• Establishing maximum prices for essential products
• Agricultural fuel card
• Agricultural electricity tariffs
• Creation of energy communities
• Transparency at every stage of subsidies

“Greece needs a bold new start, to close the cycle of decline and open the cycle of progress. The country belongs to its citizens, not funds,” he concluded, highlighting the urgent need for political change to restore trust and economic growth.
