Kikilias: €22.16 Million Paid to Islanders through Transport Subsidy to Improve Daily Life
The program supports passengers and businesses by reducing travel and shipping costs across the islands.

Another cycle of the Transport Subsidy (Metaforiko Isodynamo) program has been completed, with total payments exceeding €22.16 million, directly improving the daily lives of residents in Greece’s island regions. The initiative helps cover part of the increased travel costs and goods transportation expenses, while also supporting local businesses.

According to the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy:

  • €12,273,674.92 was paid to 126,984 eligible passengers for ferry and air travel between October 1 and December 31, 2024.
  • €9,886,614.87 was allocated to 1,788 businesses under the second phase of eligible expenses for goods transport from July 1 to December 31, 2022.

Reminder: Businesses on islands with populations up to 3,500, as well as applications under €2,000, were already settled in May 2025 and December 2024, respectively.

Ministerial Statements

The Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Vasilis Kikilias, said:

“We continue with policies that improve the quality of life for island residents and support island living, which is a key advantage for our country. The Transport Subsidy payments to passengers and businesses reflect this commitment in practice. The measure is a tangible tool to reduce inequalities faced by island residents in both their travel and the transport of goods.”

Deputy Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Stefanos Gikas, added:

“The Transport Subsidy aims to improve and enhance the daily lives of our islanders. In this direction, we are working on redesigning and modernizing the program for the benefit of our islands.”

Through this initiative, the Ministry of Shipping promotes equality and development in island regions, demonstrating that public policy can combine financial support with social responsibility.
