Inauguration of the fully renovated Amyntaio Health Center – €1.5 million investment and a message of continuity for the NHS

With a project of substance and long-term impact that tangibly reshapes Primary Healthcare, the fully renovated Amyntaio Health Center in Florina was officially inaugurated on Tuesday, December 23, in the presence of the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis.

The Minister’s visit to Florina carried a clear political and developmental message:healthcare in the regions is moving from promises to delivery.

A flagship project under “Greece 2.0”

The Amyntaio Health Center is part of Action 16755 – Reform of Primary Healthcare within the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0.” It forms part of a broader upgrade of five Health Centers under the 3rd Regional Health Authority (3rd HRA), with a total budget of €3,012,158.81.

Specifically for Amyntaio, the investment reached €1,542,362.51 (VAT included), highlighting the strategic importance of Western Macedonia.

What changes in practice

The interventions were extensive and decisive:

  • Comprehensive energy upgrade of the building
  • Replacement of electromechanical equipment
  • Installation of a Building Management System (BMS) and photovoltaic panels
  • New interior layouts to improve functionality
  • Full accessibility for persons with disabilities
  • Establishment of a Chronic Disease Management Clinic

The project was completed within the scheduled timeline, under continuous supervision by the Technical Service of the 3rd HRA of Macedonia, delivering a modern, safe, and energy-efficient healthcare unit to local residents.

A strong political message from Adonis Georgiadis

In his statement, the Minister of Health emphasized that the project goes beyond technical upgrading and represents an investment in the future:

“With the complete building renovation and energy upgrade, we are giving the Amyntaio Health Center another 15–20 years of life. This is a milestone in its history and a step forward,” he stated, stressing that the Greek state demonstrates its commitment to the region in concrete terms.

His reference to continuity and to “passing the baton to the next generation” added a clear institutional sense of responsibility.

A strategy of savings and hospital reinforcement

Equally significant was the statement by the Regional Governor of Western Macedonia, Giorgos Amanatidis, who outlined a broader resource-allocation strategy:

By investing in Health Centers, the region is saving approximately €13 million, which will now be directed toward upgrading medical equipment across all hospitals in Western Macedonia.

“Nothing will be lacking in our hospitals—neither buildings nor equipment,” he said, underlining the goal of restoring public trust in the National Health System (NHS).

The Amyntaio Health Center is not just another public project. It is a case study in healthcare policy with measurable results, in a region that has long demanded meaningful support.

At a time when public debate around the NHS often centers on criticism, Amyntaio proves that with planning, funding, and oversight, public healthcare can move decisively forward.
