Adonis: “You will not destroy livestock farming in the name of ignorance and hatred”
I don’t usually remain silent when the truth is dangerously distorted. Even less so when that distortion threatens our national economy, public health, and the future of Greek livestock farming.
The discussion around the so-called “vaccination of sheep” is not just another parliamentary squabble. It is a clear example of political populism that completely ignores science and European law.
There is no vaccine. Period.
I say this clearly and responsibly:
- There is no approved vaccine for sheep pox in the European Union.
This is not an opinion, it is the official position of:
- the Greek National Organization for Medicines (EOF)
- the European Commission
- and the EU Health Commissioner
Anyone demanding a “vaccination campaign” either does not know better or is intentionally misleading.
Adonis Georgiadis speaks as Minister, not as a commentator
Unlike easy slogans, Adonis speaks with official service reports, formal documents, and European regulations in hand. As the Minister responsible for vaccines, he knows that:
- The specific vaccine is live
- It does not eradicate the virus, but may spread it
- Its use is strictly forbidden in the EU
Vaccination is not the solution – it’s the problem.
The inconvenient truth some try to hide
Illegally vaccinating a flock can:
- Keep the virus alive
- Infect neighboring, unvaccinated flocks
- Lead to a chain reaction of destruction
Many farmers who suffered losses don’t even know: their sheep got infected because someone nearby vaccinated secretly and illegally.
And here the fairy tale ends and Europe begins
The Health Commissioner was clear: If such a program is implemented, Greek livestock products will be banned from European markets.
In plain terms:
- Export bans
- Complete economic suffocation
- Years of destruction for the sector
This is not “opposition.” This is irresponsibility with national cost.
When populism meets ignorance
It’s one thing to say this at farmer protests. It’s another when a desperate farmer says it.
But when the leader of the main opposition party says it, it becomes a political problem of the highest order.
Adonis says it clearly:
“Finally, let’s think about ‘us’ instead of ‘me’ in this country.”
The essence behind the noise
Health policy is not made with slogans. It’s made with:
- scientific data
- European rules
- responsibility toward society
Adonis Georgiadis, whether you like it or not, chose to speak the truth, even if it is not “popular.”
And in times of crisis, truth is always the rarest — and most necessary — vaccine.
