In a critical geopolitical moment, Greek Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias attended the NATO Defense Ministers’ Meeting in Brussels, reaffirming Greece as a pillar of security and strategic stability in the Eastern Mediterranean and Europe.
“As the Alliance faces intense challenges, Greece is enhancing its capabilities across all domains — sea, land, air, space, and cybersecurity,” Dendias emphasized. The presentation of “Agenda 2030” and “Achilles’ Shield” demonstrates the country’s ongoing investment in modernizing its Armed Forces and developing strategic capabilities.
At the margins of the Summit, Dendias held bilateral meetings with French Minister of Armed Forces Catherine Vautrin and Bulgarian Defense Minister Atanas Zaprianov, further strengthening Greece’s international defense collaborations. The discussions with France focused on updating the Strategic Partnership Agreement on Defense and Security, while talks with Bulgaria centered on enhancing bilateral defense ties and jointly addressing geopolitical challenges.
The Greek Minister denied rumors of a meeting with Turkish counterpart Yasar Guler, stating clearly that “there was no scheduled meeting. Mr. Guler is not even in Brussels”, sending a clear message of stability and clarity in relations with Turkey.
During his intervention, Dendias also presented initiatives to boost defense production and new capabilities, highlighting Greece’s commitment to allied solidarity within NATO and the EU. As he pointed out, Greece exceeds 3% of GDP in defense spending, which, combined with additional funds, approaches nearly 5%, enhancing the country’s credibility and international influence.
Dendias’ participation was not just a demonstration of military strength, but a political statement: Greece remains a security pillar, combining modern strategic planning, international alliances, and a solid democratic foundation. In this critical period for the Alliance and democracies worldwide, Greece’s strategic approach proves decisive and multidimensional.
