The leader of PASOK, Nikos Androulakis, issued an open letter to public officials who were targets of the Predator spyware scandal, calling on them to disclose the truth without silence or tolerance. “Silence is tolerance and, ultimately, complicity,” he warned, emphasizing the democratic duty of public service.
The scandal has already led to strict convictions by the Athens Single-Member Misdemeanor Court, which handed down sentences to four individuals and forwarded court records to the Prosecutor for further investigation of potential criminal acts involving state authorities.
State Involvement and Legal Implications
In a striking revelation, Tal Dillian, owner of Intellexa and a retired military officer from a third country, told MEGA that his company supplied Predator exclusively to governments and public law enforcement authorities. According to Androulakis, this directly implicates Greek state authorities in the illegal surveillance of ministers, members of parliament, journalists, and military officials.
Corruption undermines democracy from within. The resignation of @MakisVoridis and three deputy ministers in Greece is another sad chapter in the OPEKEPE scandal. “The narrative coming from the Prime Minister’s office that four private individuals alone orchestrated this complex surveillance network is no longer credible,” Androulakis said. “It constitutes a direct challenge to public trust and the democratic sentiment of every citizen.”
A Democratic Call to Action
Androulakis’ letter is addressed to key public figures identified in the Greek Data Protection Authority list, including:
- Former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras
- Ministers Makis Voridis, Adonis Georgiadis, Kostis Hatzidakis, Nikos Dendias, Vasilis Kikilias, Niki Kerameus, Michalis Chrysochoidis
- Heads of Armed Forces and National Police, including Konstantinos Floros and Michalis Karamalakis
- Senior government advisors and officials
“No one can hide from their democratic duty to the truth,” Androulakis emphasized. “Silence exposes those who swore to serve the nation and the public good, especially in government, parliament, the judiciary, and the armed forces.”
Political Fallout and Public Trust
The revelations underscore the existence of a para-state surveillance apparatus that threatens the rule of law and national security. Classified information, diplomatic secrets, and military intelligence may have been compromised, while the Prime Minister’s office is accused of attempting to downplay the scandal as a minor incident.
This scandal has ignited a political and democratic debate, raising questions about judicial oversight, government accountability, and the protection of civil rights in Greece.
“Defending democracy and its institutions requires courage and virtue,” Androulakis concluded. “The same applies to defending the Constitution, national dignity, and national security.”

Implications for Greece
- Highlights the risk of state-level surveillance abuse
- Puts pressure on the judiciary and law enforcement oversight
- Forces public officials to confront ethical responsibilities
- Raises awareness about the intersection of politics, security, and technology
The letter serves as both a moral and political summons to all officials involved to cooperate with justice and restore credibility to Greek democracy.
