In 2024, Greek exports reached a total of €49.90 billion. When excluding petroleum products, exports grew by 16.2% in December, continuing a six-month streak of growth. They rose from €2.59 billion to €3.01 billion, an increase of €418.4 million.

Piraeus CEO Christos Megalou recently stated that the acquisition of Ethniki Insurance, Greece’s second-largest insurer, would be instrumental in increasing the bank’s fee revenues to 30% from the current 20%. The deal underscores Piraeus’ strategy of diversifying income streams beyond traditional banking activities and into the growing insurance market.
The reinstated citizens include the five children of the late King Constantine II and Queen Anne-Marie—Princess Alexia (58), Crown Prince Pavlos (56), Prince Nikolaos (54), Princess Theodora (40), and Prince Philippos (37)—as well as five of their grandchildren. Their return to Greek citizenship follows a formal recognition of the country’s republican government and a commitment to renouncing any royal claims or titles.
“We have agreed to move forward with exclusive discussions regarding the potential acquisition of a 70% share in Ethniki Insurance for €469 million,” Piraeus stated in a filing to the stock exchange.
