In response to a pointed question from Zoi Konstantopoulou, leader of the opposition party Plefsi Eleftherias, Gerapetritis emphasised that Greece is actively engaged in diplomatic efforts to bring peace to the region.
He is also expected to reiterate Greece's support for the accession perspective of Ukraine (and Moldova) and the Western Balkans, provided they meet the conditions and undertake the necessary reforms.
Gerapetritis, whose country currently holds the U.N. Security Council’s rotating presidency, linked global unrest to growing inequalities that undermine democracy and the rule of law, fueling populism and demagoguery.
According to a November report by local outlet Vecer, the contract follows a competitive tender process that drew bids from five companies, including two Italian firms, one Turkish firm, and one Serbian. Construction is expected to be completed within 34 months of the contract signing.
