Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has warned newly sworn-in North Macedonia President Gordana Siljanovska that further violations of the name agreement signed between the two countries would threaten Skopje’s European Union membership ambitions.
Both Greeks and Turks are now enjoying the results of a significant initiative, allowing Turkish citizens to travel to 10 Greek islands with a quickly issued visa, he noted.
The European Commission on Monday described the failure of the new president of North Macedonia to mention the country's constitutional name during a ceremony swearing her into office as a "very unfortunate event", in response to a questions. He called on the country's newly elected authorities to continue to convince the EU that "they are committed to the European future of their country".
Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova took the oath as the first female president of North Macedonia on Sunday, igniting a fresh diplomatic dispute with neighbouring Greece right at her inauguration ceremony.
“For North Macedonia to continue its successful path on EU accession it is paramount that the country continues on the path of reforms and full respect for its binding agreements, including the Prespa Agreement,” von der Leyen wrote in a post on X social media platform.
