According to the National Meteorological Service (EMY), strong northerly winds—reaching up to 9 Beaufort locally—are expected across the Cyclades, Crete, the Dodecanese, and the eastern Aegean. The Fire Risk Prediction Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection has marked at least 10 regions, including Attica, in the “red zone” for extreme fire risk.
Therefore, protective measures are suggested, including regular cool showers, especially for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, outdoor workers, children, pregnant women, and individuals with chronic illnesses.
The meeting focused on the risk of Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation for a recent U.S. strike, a move that could disrupt global trade and directly impact Greece’s vital shipping industry.
According to public broadcaster ERT, the discussions centred on strengthening Greece’s air defence systems, with the armed forces remaining on high alert. The government has been closely monitoring the situation as fears grow over a wider regional confrontation.
