An evzone shedding a tear was one of the most emotional moments at today’s military parade in Greece’s second largest city.
Greece will continue to highlight its national rights and remain a pillar of stability and peace in our wider region," President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou said on Saturday after the conclusion of the parade in Thessaloniki.
It is said that at 3 am on October 28, 1940, an ultimatum was handed to Ioannis Metaxas at his home in Kifissia by the Italian Ambassador of Athens, Emanuele Grazzi. The ultimatum required the free passage of the Italian army through the Greek-Albanian border and thus began the occupation of some strategic areas of Greece.
