Greece faces severe economic consequences from climate change, including the potential loss of 327,000 full-time jobs and a €16 billion annual GDP decline if no mitigation measures are taken, according to a new study by the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE).
To overcome these institutional limitations, the government is considering the creation of 45 new corporate entities — one for each of Greece’s river basins or designated regions.

According to the National Observatory of Athens, recent satellite data shows sea surface temperatures across Greece ranging from 20 to 22°C — notably above average for this time of year. The unusually high readings are attributed to a combination of seasonal heat and the absence of strong winds, which normally help cool the water.
This decision formalizes a practice already adopted by low-cost carriers like Ryanair, Vueling, EasyJet, Norwegian, and Volotea, which previously faced fines, including €179 million in Spain, for similar charges.
