According to the Ministry of Transport, the new RTC aims to bring significant changes in road behavior and public safety, with the ultimate goal of substantially reducing traffic fatalities in Greece.
According to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), 665 people lost their lives in traffic accidents in 2024, while Greece remains among the European Union countries with the highest rates of road fatalities. Data from the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) ranks Greece seventh across the bloc for traffic-related deaths.
The company emphasized that no images of the Acropolis were used for advertising or other purposes. “The event complied fully with the approved permits, and the drone flight was limited to the Zappeion site,” Adidas stated.
According to official data from the Hellenic Traffic Police, between 11 and 27 April 2025, a total of 1.9 million vehicles were recorded leaving the metropolitan areas. Despite a 17.2% drop in fatal accidents compared to Easter 2024 (24 this year versus 29 last year), the toll remains grim.
“We have an obligation to preserve the identity and character of our unique historic center,” said Athens Mayor Haris Doukas. “Cracking down on illegal activities and the reckless commercialization of our historic sites is a top priority, so that we can pass on a rich legacy to the younger generations.”
In 2024, there was a slight increase of deaths to 654, and another 13,368 were injured, 547 seriously and 12,821 lightly.
