Athens is experiencing a surge in American tourism this summer, securing a spot in the top 10 destinations for US travelers. This influx comes as a strong dollar and booming US economy fuel record spending on international travel.

Fueled by salary increases and strong investment returns, Americans are venturing abroad in droves, with Athens joining the ranks of popular destinations like Cancun, Aruba, London, and Tokyo. This surge in travel is providing a significant boost to economies worldwide.

This trend is evident in Greece, where data from the Bank of Greece reveals a 62.1% year-on-year increase in American arrivals from January to April, totaling 267,500 travelers. This surge in visitors translated to a 35.7% jump in travel receipts from American tourists, reaching €204.6 million.

Beyond traditional favorites, destinations like Albania and Romania are also experiencing a surge in popularity amongst American travelers seeking more affordable options.
