Unemployment rate dropped to 8.7 pct in January 2025
The number of employed persons amounted to 4,288,284 persons, increased by 61,559 persons as compared with January 2024 (1.5%) and by 8,794 persons compared withDecember 2024 (0.2%).  The number of unemployed persons amounted to 408,181, decreased by 149,257 persons as compared with January 2024 (-26.8%) and by 28,830 persons compared with December 2024 (-6.6%).

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in January 2025 amounted to 8.7% compared to the upwards revised 11.7% in January 2024 and to the downwards revised 9.3% in December 2024, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) announced on Tuesday.

The number of employed persons amounted to 4,288,284 persons, increased by 61,559 persons as compared with January 2024 (1.5%) and by 8,794 persons compared withDecember 2024 (0.2%).  The number of unemployed persons amounted to 408,181, decreased by 149,257 persons as compared with January 2024 (-26.8%) and by 28,830 persons compared with December 2024 (-6.6%).

The unemployment rate of women rose to 10.9% from 13.9% in January last year and among men to 7% from 9.9%.

By age group, in the 15-24 year old group the unemployment rate stood at 19.5% from 23.2% in January 2024 and in the 25-74 year old group at 8.1% from 11%.

Also according to the ELSTAT labour force survey, the number of employed persons amounted to 4,288,284 people, marking an increase of 61,559 people compared to January 2024 (1.5%) and of 8,794 people compared to December 2024 (0.2%).

The number of persons outside the labour force, i.e., persons under the age of 75, that neither work nor look for a job, amounted to 3,066,282, increased by 59,740 persons as compared with January 2024 (2.0%) and by 17,952 persons compared with December 2024 (0,6%).
