Greek shipping companies swept the podium at the third annual ESG Shipping Awards International, cementing their leadership in sustainable maritime practices. The prestigious event, held under the auspices of Greece’s Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy and the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping, celebrated industry leaders driving environmental, social, and governance (ESG) excellence.
Greek shipowners and managers secured gold awards in seven out of ten categories, while also claiming half of the night’s 32 gold, silver, and bronze awards. Among the standout winners were:
-
Latsco
-
Tsakos Group
-
Contships Management
-
Star Bulk Carriers
-
Century Bulk Carriers Management
-
Seanergy Maritime
-
Navios Maritime Partners
International operators such as Pacific Basin, Lemissoler Navigation, and Oldendorff Carriers also took home gold, highlighting the global nature of the competition.
Several companies, including Aida Cruises, Berge Bulk, Capital Group, Chandris Group, Contships, OSM Thome, and Star Bulk, were recognized with multiple awards.
Honoring Leadership in Sustainability
The ESG Motivational Leadership Award was presented to two industry trailblazers:
-
Marily Frangista, Managing Director of Franco Compania Naviera
-
Semiramis Paliou, Chairperson of Diana Shipping and Helmepa
Both were honored for their “longstanding contribution and inspirational leadership” in advancing maritime sustainability.
George Alexandratos, President of the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping, emphasized the sector’s evolving priorities. “Shipping has always been a sector of responsibility, resilience, and respect—long before ESG became a global framework,” he said. “But today, ESG is no longer optional; it is a necessity, a standard, and most importantly, an opportunity to modernize.”
Veteran shipowner Panagiotis Tsakos offered a generational perspective, recalling Greek shipping’s long-standing values: “For decades, if not centuries, we have lived by three principles: do your work to the best of your ability, honor your word, and take care of your people and community. These awards embody that spirit.”
A Growing Global Platform
Launched in 2023, the ESG Shipping Awards initially focused on the Greek market but have since expanded internationally. The 2025 edition welcomed participants from across the maritime world, reinforcing ESG as a key driver of industry transformation.
As the sector navigates toward a greener future, Greek shipping continues to set the benchmark—proving that sustainability and success go hand in hand.
