Greece’s unemployment rate fell to 8.3% in April 2025, down from 10.8% in April 2024 and a revised 8.9% in March 2025, according to the latest labour force survey by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).
The number of unemployed individuals stood at 391,263, reflecting a significant decrease of 128,525 people (24.7%) compared to April 2024 and a reduction of 26,943 people (6.4%) from March 2025.
The unemployment rate for women dropped to 10.8% from 13.6% a year earlier, while for men, it decreased to 6.3% from 8.5%. Among age groups, the 15-24 age bracket saw unemployment fall to 20.4% from 24.2% in April 2024, and for those aged 25-74, the rate declined to 7.7% from 10%.
Employment also saw positive growth, with 4,313,817 individuals employed in April 2025, an increase of 24,554 people (0.6%) compared to April 2024 and 28,144 people (0.7%) compared to March 2025.
Meanwhile, the number of individuals under 75 not in the labour force—those neither working nor seeking work—reached 3,050,528. This figure rose by 77,322 (2.6%) compared to April 2024 but saw a slight decrease of 3,569 (0.1%) from March 2025.
These figures signal a continuing recovery in Greece’s labour market, offering hope for further economic stabilisation.
