Decade for 2025, based on data in 2024, as reported in a Ministry of Digital Governance announcement on Thursday.

Specifically, the country had one of the highest coverages in the EU, with a percentage of 99.80% in 2024, exceeding the average (94.35%) and presenting a spectacular increase compared to 2019, when it was 0%.

According to the ministry, the country’s broader rise in digital connectivity infrastructure for 2024 was significant. The VHCN (Very high capacity networks) coverage went from 0% in 2019 to 46.1%, with a growth rate of 19.9%, greatly exceeding the EU average of 4.9%.

Correspondingly, the FTTP (Fiber to the premises) coverage has gone from 0% in 2019 to 46.1% at present, also with a growth rate of 19.9% and again higher than the EU average (8.4%). Despite substantial progress, it still falls short of the European average, which is 82.49% and 69.24%, respectively. It is noted that in this field there is significant mobilisation of private investment for the further development of optical fibers.

Greece also made notable progress in the Digital Transformation of businesses, reported the Ministry of Digital Governance, with an increase of 13.9%. In 2024, 53.4% of small and medium-sized enterprises had at least a basic level of digital intensity.

However, further improvement is required in this area, the ministry also underlined, in order for the country to keep up with the EU average. The adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) by businesses has also increased impressively: from 4.0% in 2023 to 9.8% in 2024. The country was also chosen to host one of the first seven out of a total of 13 AI Factories in the EU.
