The Unsolvable Riddle of Jerusalem It Belongs to Israel

June 1967. In just six days, Israel rewrote the destiny of Jerusalem.
At 9:45 AM on June 7th, 1967, the sound of Israeli tanks echoed through the ancient stone alleys of the Old City. Paratroopers stormed through the Lion’s Gate under heavy fire, racing toward the dream of generations. Moments later, three Israeli units converged on the holiest of sites — the Western Wall. The prayers of thousands of years finally met stone. Some cried. Others whispered ancient psalms. A few sang. But they all understood: Jerusalem was once again in Jewish hands.
This was not merely a military victory. It was a moment of historic redemption.
A City Divided, A Nation United
For 19 years, Jerusalem had been split. The western side blossomed under Israeli rule. The east, including the Old City, remained under Jordanian control, cut off by barbed wire, snipers, and silence. Jews were barred from praying at their holiest site. The ancient Jewish Quarter lay in ruins. Synagogues desecrated. Cemeteries defaced.
But the world remained quiet.
Then came the Six-Day War, and with it, the turning of history’s page.
Dayan, Rabin, Gur — And the March to the Wall
General Moshe Dayan — the iconic one-eyed warrior — understood both the strategic importance and spiritual gravity of Jerusalem. He hesitated. He deliberated. But once the decision was made, there was no turning back.
Colonel Motta Gur’s voice crackled through military radios:
“The Temple Mount is in our hands!”
An Emotional Homecoming
Rabbi Shlomo Goren, clutching a Torah and a shofar, stepped before the ancient stones of the Western Wall. Surrounded by soldiers, dust, and tears, he recited the Kaddish — the mourners’ prayer — not for the dead, but for the centuries of longing. The plaza before the Wall, once a cramped alley, was cleared and expanded. Jerusalem was reborn.
For religious Jews, it was the fulfillment of biblical prophecy.
For secular Israelis, it was a triumph of identity and survival.
For the Jewish people, it was the end of exile — a return home.
From the Shadows of History to the Light of Sovereignty
Even pragmatic leaders like David Ben-Gurion, who had once accepted partition, now spoke with clarity: Jerusalem would never be divided again. The Knesset acted quickly. Municipal borders were redrawn. The city was united. The Jewish Quarter was rebuilt. Synagogues restored. Stones scrubbed clean of war and time.
The world debated. Israel built.
The World Watches — And Reacts
In America, evangelical Christians interpreted the liberation of Jerusalem as a divine sign. In Israel, a new wave of messianic nationalism was born. For some, this was spiritual fulfillment. For others, it was realpolitik: strategic depth, historic justice, national pride.
But to all Israelis — right, left, secular, or devout — Jerusalem was no longer a question. It was a declaration.
Jerusalem Today: The Heart That Will Not Be Divided
Fifty-eight years later, the riddle of Jerusalem remains “unsolvable” only to those who ignore the truth written in blood, faith, and history. A city sacred to many, yes — but central only to one. The Jewish people do not merely reside in Jerusalem. They are rooted in it — spiritually, historically, and morally.
No international resolution, no diplomatic euphemism, no academic relativism can erase what happened that morning in June 1967.
Jerusalem is not an obstacle to peace. Jerusalem is the proof that peace must be rooted in truth.
Statement from Adonis Georgiadis, Greek Minister of Health:
“As a friend of Israel and a student of history, I say it clearly: Jerusalem is the eternal capital of the Jewish people. The bond between the people of Israel and their holy city is not only religious and national — it is existential. Anyone who questions this, ignores history.“
Jerusalem — Not a Riddle. A Revelation.
