Nikos Androulakis, president of PASOK-Center for Change and head of the main opposition, delivered a scathing critique from the floor of the Hellenic Parliament, targeting the government, the Prime Minister, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mitsotakis–Erdogan Meeting Postponed: Amateurism and Carelessness
Commenting on the postponed meeting, Androulakis said:
“Instead of a meeting, we saw a postponement that reveals and certifies the carelessness and amateurism of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”
He questioned the government’s claims of “calm waters” in foreign policy and the alleged isolation of Erdogan:
“One by one, all the narratives of the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister prove empty. From where is Erdogan isolated? China? Europe? Islamic countries? Or the U.S.?”
He added a sharp critique of propaganda-driven foreign policy:
“When foreign policy is based on propaganda, this is the result. The ‘calm waters’ exist only in your propaganda.”
Greece’s Stance on the International Stage
Referring to the Gaza conflict, Androulakis emphasized:
“The Greek people always stand for human rights and against human tragedies. Which other European country has become an apologist for Netanyahu?”
He urged the government to align with European resolutions and take concrete steps, including sanctions:
“We must unite Greece’s voice with all European countries that want the massacre and ethnic cleansing in Gaza to stop.”
OPEKEPE Scandal: Carelessness and Cover-Up
Androulakis also addressed the OPEKEPE scandal, accusing the ruling party of:
- Engineering a parody process “cut and sewn to cover up the scandal.”
- Excluding key figures responsible for misappropriating millions in EU funds.
- Summoning even deceased witnesses, demonstrating panic and carelessness.
He condemned the government for treating the state as a party fiefdom and the parliamentary majority as a tool to undermine institutions.
Support for Panos Routsis’ Request
Androulakis expressed support for Panos Routsis’ request to exhume his child, who died in the Tempi railway tragedy:
“Above all, we have a duty to uphold the moral dimension of justice that safeguards human dignity.”
He criticized the Prime Minister for interfering with the judiciary:
“He sent a letter to the then Prosecutor of the Supreme Court asking to upgrade the criminal process, intervening in justice.”
Development Bill: A Monument to Carelessness
Discussing the Ministry of Economy’s bill, he called it a monument to carelessness and lack of planning, denouncing the DETH board provision as a disregard for the local community of Thessaloniki.
Private Debt Amendment: Strangling Citizens’ Daily Lives
Androulakis defended his party’s amendment on private debt:
“Together, they strangle citizens’ daily lives and plunge businesses into insecurity. The government has looked on calmly for six years, without the political will to confront banks, funds, or servicers.”
A Call for Change
Androulakis concluded:
“We believe Greece can succeed. What is needed is a comprehensive policy shift that opens the way for a new creative course. We will fight to make the government a thing of the past as soon as possible.”
