Dendias – Hegseth: Greece Strengthens Strategic Ties in Washington

Defense Minister Nikos Dendias is set to meet US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on Tuesday at the Pentagon, followed by a separate meeting with Undersecretary of Defense Elbridge Colby to discuss the details of bilateral cooperation. This visit to Washington coincides with his participation in the Delphi Forum, highlighting Greece’s growing strategic diplomacy.

During his stay, Dendias took part in a roundtable discussion on European security and international developments, emphasizing the strategic importance of Greece–US defense collaboration.

Diplomatic and Para-Political Engagements

Dendias conducted a series of high-level meetings that strengthen Greece’s diplomatic and strategic network:

• He met with Leslie Vinjamuri, CEO of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, to discuss European security architecture and regional stability.
• He held successive meetings with Ted Deutch, Executive Director of the American Jewish Committee (AJC), Cypriot Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kompos, and the President of the Jewish Institute for National Security of America (JINSA).

According to Dendias, these meetings highlight the strategic dimension of the Greece–United States partnership, a key pillar of regional stability and security.

From a para-political standpoint, Dendias’ visit also sends a clear message: Greece is asserting itself as a stable, reliable actor in regional and transatlantic security. The engagement with AJC and JINSA signals Greece’s effort to strengthen strategic influence, while coordination with Cyprus underscores the regional security dimension.
