
Greek Alcohol Exports Break the €100 Million Barrier in 2024

In the first three months of 2025, food exports soared by 13.8%, contributing an additional €273.2 million to Greece’s export revenue. The total value reached €2.252 billion, up from €1.979 billion in the same period last year. This growth outpaced all other sectors, with only the smaller “beverages and tobacco” category slightly ahead at 14.2%.
Notably, food inflation remained nearly stagnant at just 0.1%, while the highest price increases were recorded in passenger air transport (31.6%), natural gas (26.5%), hotels-motels-inns (16.8%), residential rents (9.2%), and holiday packages (8.4%). Additionally, health insurance premiums saw a 7% rise.
According to data from the research firm Circana (formerly IRI), the volume of sales grew by 2.8% in 2024, outpacing the 2.6% increase in sales value. This growth comes after a period of reduced consumption in 2022 and 2023, mainly due to steep price hikes. In fact, in 2022, sales grew by just 0.5% year-over-year, while in 2023, the increase was 2.5%.
In 2024, Greek exports reached a total of €49.90 billion. When excluding petroleum products, exports grew by 16.2% in December, continuing a six-month streak of growth. They rose from €2.59 billion to €3.01 billion, an increase of €418.4 million.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Hindu, Gerapetritis stressed that despite setbacks, the project’s core objectives of promoting peace and prosperity remain intact.
